Individual by Design
Since 2010, Barker Design has created individual interiors that respect the history and character of each home while reflecting the people who live there. Blending different eras, materials and craftsmanship, we bring together the familiar and the unexpected to create homes that feel layered, authentic and original. Homes that evolve over time and feel unmistakably your own.
Georgian Villa
A Georgian villa reworked for contemporary family life. Original architectural details sit alongside bespoke joinery, collected pieces and a confident use of colour, creating a home that feels established rather than newly decorated.
Arts & Crafts House
A layered interior that takes its lead from the character of the house. Original features are balanced with contemporary furniture, pattern, artwork and pieces from different periods to create something distinctly personal.
“Throughout the whole process Justine and her team did a fantastic job, from design, to sourcing and implementation. She has a wonderful team working alongside her and a black book of tried and trusted specialist trades and suppliers, sourcing fantastic vintage pieces alongside bespoke designs.
The overall design process and quality of the work was excellent and the whole process was thoroughly enjoyable. It was a pleasure working with Justine and I would definitely recommend her.”
Decimus Burton Mansion
A richly layered interior within a Decimus Burton property in Tunbridge Wells. Respecting the original architecture, the design brings together contemporary art, bespoke elements and pieces collected over time.
The Manor House
A historic house in Lewes where old and new are deliberately brought together. Bespoke joinery, vintage finds, contemporary pieces and crafted details create an interior that feels evolved while remaining rooted in the character of the building.
“Justine was a huge asset to our renovation project. She made the entire process almost entirely stress free. We have been blown away, not only by how amazing our house looks, but also by how well it works for us as a family and how accurately it reflects our own individual taste. We are both absolutely delighted with our stunning, new home and recommend Justine and her team whole-heartedly.”
Design Principles
The Barker Design approach is grounded in thoughtful design, drawing inspiration from different eras, cultures and craftsmanship to create homes that feel original, lived in and enduring.
Since founding Barker Design in 2010, I’ve worked on period properties, country homes and contemporary renovations. Every project brings its own opportunities and challenges, requiring careful listening, experience and an understanding of how people live.
